Infrared emission of the NV centre in diamond: Zeeman and uniaxial stress studies
نویسندگان
چکیده
An emission band in the infrared (IR) is shown to be associated with a transition within the negative nitrogen-vacancy centre in diamond. The band has a zero-phonon line at 1046 nm, and uniaxial stress and magnetic field measurements indicate that the emission is associated with a transition between 1E and A1 singlet levels. Inter-system crossing to these singlets causes the spin polarization that makes the NV centre attractive for quantum information processing, and the IR emission band provides a new avenue for using the centre in such applications. 1 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Spectrally and spatially resolved cathodoluminescence of nanodiamonds: local variations of the NV(0) emission properties.
Here we report the spectrally and spatially resolved cathodoluminescence of diamond nanoparticles using focused fast electron beams in a transmission electron microscope. We demonstrate the possibility of quickly detecting various individual colour centres of different kinds on wide areas (several micrometres square) contained in nanoparticles separated by subwavelength distances. Among them, n...
متن کاملStimulated emission from nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond
Stimulated emission is the process fundamental to laser operation, thereby producing coherent photon output. Despite negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV-) centres being discussed as a potential laser medium since the 1980s, there have been no definitive observations of stimulated emission from ensembles of NV- to date. Here we show both theoretical and experimental evidence for stimulated e...
متن کاملSingle-proton spin detection by diamond magnetometry.
Extending magnetic resonance imaging to the atomic scale has been a long-standing aspiration, driven by the prospect of directly mapping atomic positions in molecules with three-dimensional spatial resolution. We report detection of individual, isolated proton spins by a nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center in a diamond chip covered by an inorganic salt. The single-proton identity was confirmed by the ...

The nitrogen-vacancy defect centre in diamond1–4 has potential applications in nanoscale electric and magnetic-field sensing2–6, single-photon microscopy7,8, quantum information processing9 and bioimaging10. These applications rely on the ability to position a single nitrogen-vacancy centre within a few nanometres of a sample, and then scan it across the sample surface, while preserving the cen...
متن کاملTuned NV emission by in-plane Al-Schottky junctions on hydrogen terminated diamond
The negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centre exhibits outstanding optical and spin properties and thus is very attractive for applications in quantum optics. Up to now an active control of the charge state of near-surface NV centres is difficult and the centres switch in an uncontrolled way between different charge states. In this work, we demonstrate an active control of the charge stat...
